This system is a fantastic update to a solid system with a stellar library of games. I've owned a 3DS XL for awhile now and it works great for everything but the 3D. I found it too hard to keep my head held in the sweet spot for any extended period of time and ended up just playing with 3D off in my games, which was a shame because the 3D effect was quite cool in certain games.

On the New 3DS XL, the 3D is vastly improved. I'd say it's effective 95% of the time. The face-tracking camera that gives it "super stable" 3D really does work well - even when playing in the dark! In games like Super Mario 3D world or Zelda: Link Between worlds, it's so good that you can basically leave 3D on all of the time. In some circumstances, occasionally (such as in cutscenes in Fire Emblem: Awakening) it doesn't seem to know if I'm looking at the foreground or background, so the 3D becomes blurry, but otherwise the 3D effect is perfect almost all of the time.

the best 3D I've seen yet and it works great. Plus the second control nub is used to control the camera in some games (like Majora's Mask).

So, is the New 3DS XL a world changing system compared to the regular 3DS XL? No. But it's a little bit faster (the CPU is a quad core version of the dual core in the previous 3DS XL, with double the RAM), the second control stick is good for a handful of games, and the 3D effect goes from gimmick to handy feature. I also prefer the button layout (start and select are just like on the old DS XL, not crummy weird buttons like on the old 3DSs at the bottom middle).
In Zelda: Majora's Mask, the 3D effect is amazing - arguably
The new 3DS XL is great other than a few problems that are pretty minor in my opinion.
First off the name is dumb as hell Nintendo could have done better with that.

Second for some reason they decided to go back to the O.G. 3DS' glossy outer shell, which was just a magnet for all the fingerprints that have ever existed. The inside of it has a matte finish so you don't have to worry about the part you touch the most getting all smudgy.

Third it's way too much work to switch out the micro SD card you only really have to do this once, but it was still 20 minutes of gently prying the back cover off in fear of breaking it. There are videos explaining how to do it though.

Fourth the face tracking 3D could be explained better, sometimes it tracks perfectly then other times it thinks I'm upside down and spinning. The way to fix that is to just close the 3DS and wait for about 5 seconds then open it up again and turn your head slightly from side to side till it figures out where you are.

Fifth if you are coming from the old 3DS XL then the stylus on this is just short enough to be inconvenient.

Sixth and final problem is that it doesn't come with a charger, so if you don't have one you might want to order one.

Other than that great system, spiffy features way faster, but those problems do hold it back from a 5 star rating.
